Clicking Rear End

I was out at Swinley yesterday and after half an hour or so I found that there was a clicking noise when putting extra power through the pedals (ie; when climbing). It's as if something is rubbing but I've taken a look and can't see any issues though and everything looks straight at the rear end.

Could be any number of things. You need to isolate and check.I don't do smileys.

Thanks for that,I took a look at that page yesterday but it's not describing my problem. It's not a creaking issue and the clicking noise is coming throughout the whole revolution of the pedal but only when under greater pressure, not when pedaling along on the flat at constant speed0

Yes I know, it's difficult to isolate when it only happens when under stress. Thought I'd see if anyone had any immediate 'oh, it'll be that then' answers, especially as I'm at work currently0
-
I'd bet it's the BB needing to be replaced.0
-
I only bought the bike in September, hope it's not an issue with the bb, i've kept it nice and tidy since getting it. I've got some time on Saturday morning and I'll see what I can find0

It's a HT Cube Ltd Race. I was certain that I'd bent the mech hanger whilst I was out but when hosing it down when I got home it looked straight and true0

I had a similar issue with my commuter, only made a noise when under pressure. I had the BB replaced, spokes re-tensioned, gears adjusted etc.
Turns out it was the rear QR that needed a bit of grease and re-tightening!0 -
Thanks, I'll take a look0

Does it do it out of the saddle as well as on the saddle?0
-
Yep0

To stop it clicking?0

It was more likely the fact you retightened it than grease. I'd say since it's holding your rear wheel in by friction alone grease is the last thing i'd want near it.0

Well it hasn't fallen out yet and i've done over 4000miles on it.0

Which means absolutely nothing.I don't do smileys.

I could wrestle with tigers and survive but that doesn't make it a good idea does it.0

I'd really prefer a pickled egg if it's not too much trouble. Also a handgun would do nicely.0

Pickled egg is fine, but I believe a hand gun is against the spirit of wrestling. You can have a pointy stick instead.I don't do smileys.

What man would say no to chips or beer, regardless of location?0

Thanks for the help folks, can't say I fancy pickled eggs or onions, gherkins are much better0

At risk of going back on topic, I would bet a whole jar of Silverskin Pickled Onions (and I do love those), that it's the chainring bolts. Exactly the same problem on my bike, I undid the bolts, cleaned them, re-greased them and put them back on. No more clicking under pressure.0

Thanks, the hour I told the wife I'd be spending outside on Saturday morning before we go into town for some final Christmas shopping is getting longer and longer the more suggestions I get. Keep 'em coming and I'll get out of it entirely0
