    Most of the houses in Kenya we lived in were on stilts. Every now and again, the gamekeeper used to bring his Mongooses (Mongeese, Mongoosii ?!) to flush the snakes out. Used to love watching them in action and then afterwards they were as mad as a... well, box of Mongooses, high as a kite and they would clamber all over you.

    As a child, they were Santa, The Easter Bunny, Birthdays. Ice cream and Chocolate all rolled into one. I think I developed the fear of snakes through the locals.
