After having my winter bike stolen a few weeks back now I've now managed to get hold of a Kinesis T2 frame for the new winter bike. Just building it up and after installing the brake calipers I've just noticed that when pressing the calipers in against the wheel to set the blocks up they don't even touch the rim of the wheel. Do I need long brake calipers? Not done anything different to what I'd normally do to build a bike. Anyone on here have this fame, and what are you using?

Thanks

  • Yes, long reach calipers needed, as there is clearance for mudguards. I bought some Tekro r356's which are fine, they may have been replaced now, try the r539s, £44 on CRC

I filed out the slots on my calipers as I only needed a few milimetres .

Thanks, I bought some sram apex from a shop on eBay and luckily he has the r539 calipers as well so I'm going to return them for an exchange. Gutted. Another set back.....

Yes I wouldn't get even close. The blocks don't even clear the tyre...

  • Excellent winter build frame choice, sir! I built mine up a couple of months or so ago (see the My Bikes section).

I used Tektro R539 deep drop brakes. They're fine, just ditch the stock pads (they grind up your alu rims and are crap in the wet) and put in some Swissstop greens or Koolstop salmons and you'll be reet. I got mine super-cheap from Ribble, both brakes and pads.

Alternative is Shimano (650 I think) but these are much more expensive if probably a bit better reading the reviews.

Thanks it certainly took some finding because it seems everyone had already snapped them up. Think I've probably got 1 of the last frames in the country. ( no joke ) I actually went through the entire dealer list on Kinesis to find 1...... Managed to get the 2013 T2 in gloss blk. Ill post some pics when it's finished.

Thanks for the heads up on the pads. I'm sure the Tektro will be fine, and I can just swap the ones I bought over for them so saves on hassle too....
