For £200 difference I would get the condor or get a bike fit. The other thing to.bear in mind is that the after sales is likely to be better at condor cycles.
  • I got one of these when they where £920 still a bargain at this price

They also do a 105 version depending on your preferances

I think there's some good advice here, if you are determined to go steel, but for that money you can get good components (better than many of the builds mentioned here) and a decent Van Nicholas Titanium frame - which will do what you want, it will just be lighter. See: http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/CBV ... _road_bike

From experience building from a frame alone is only worth doing if you have something specific in mind and you enjoy doing did. Also I like Genesis frames (I ride one) but they are not 'that' great - I'd only do a self build if a very special frame was at the heart of it - handmade, bespoke or a more expensive frame material. Otherwise I don't think it's worth the time & hassle. As I say, depends if you enjoy doing it & what you want from it...

A self build isn't much hassle and is a great way of learning how to service your own bike, saving lots of money down the road. If you go with secondhand parts (why pay new price for a handlebar or a seatpost??) you can build for significantly less. I built my equilibrium up and came in around £800 including a new set of handbuilts with a full Veloce groupset so a significant upgrade on the stock offering at the same pricepoint.

To be honest I would always self build except for a couple of bike manufacturers (eg Canyon) simply because of the markups most companies put on the components. It only takes a couple of hours from start to end.

Agree with the poster above concerning the Miche brakes. They are excellent for the money and perfect for this build.

Yes, I was assuming that you'd be using mostly new parts. It's different if you have a groupset laying around - in those cirumstance I too would build it. I also accept it can be a good way to learn about bikes if you haven't done it before. So it does vary. Not for me most of the time though.

  • Give Epic cycles a try. They're a genesis reseller but have a very good attitude to swapping out components that don't suit individuals.

They'll certainly be able to help with improving the spec of the Genesis without too much hassle.

This looks like a bargain but is it a more audax-type, less sporty sort of bike bike as opposed to say the Enigma Elite which is a bit racier like the Acciaio or Equilibrium...?

Yeah, if its got clearance for a rack then it probably wont be very lively. Short chainstays are what you want!
