Where turning the front wheel results in in clouting your toes....

kiddy specific cranks? Sounds to me like the bike is way too small for you. Is it a 29er by any chance?

No. I agree with this blog article

It's not a problem. It's something you need to be aware of when making a very tight turn.

Hmm.. I now see this is in the MTB section. For a mountain bike, I would say it is a problem.

Short of changing your bike, I cannot see any solution though.

Toe overlap offroad is a bloomin nightmare. Even on a crosser it's irritating but with mountain bikes you'll want to be pedalling up switchbacks, changing foot position etc. And if you use flat pedals then your feet should be fairly far forwards on the pedals too.

So yeah... What size bike, what length cranks, where are you putting your feet? I'm going to make a rash assumption, and say that if you know what toe overlap is you're probably not such a knobber as to be standing on your heels or suchlike.

It must be either a 29er, or has the forks on backwards. Both of which result in the bike being pants.
Except you can't wear it, like you can with pants.

no idea where he said that, but if that's the case, it's a 29er...
