Tyres for Surrey Hills

As everyone seems to be at it, I thought I'd jump on the bandwagon and get some input on what tyres I should buy for my new build.
The critreria I'm looking at are
1.The bike is an Intense 5.5 EVP which apparently has fairly tight clearances so looking at 2.25 or under
2.I mainly ride Surrey Hills or Swinley Forest, so trail type riding but varies between sandy type soil to sticky mud(depending on which hill you ride) but no real rocky bits
3. Looking for something I can fit and forget, haven't got the budget for specific winter & summer tyres
4. Not sure if it makes a difference but I weigh in at (cough) 14st
5. I'm a tight a*se so the cheaper the better
Was thinking of Maxxis Advantge, 2.25 up front and 2.1 rear but is there anything else that would suit me better
Cheers
Jim

I use Maxxis Ignitor Exceptions series all year round riding the same places. Currently 2.25 but that's because I got them cheap.I don't do smileys.

Conti Race or Mountain Kings work for me.
Have considered Rubber Queens, but never splashed out.0 -
On one have a massive sale on tyres at the moment, worth a look0

Hans Dampf 2.35. Absolutely awesome. I have the cheaper ORC compound and I can say it has never let me down.
Good over wet roots, as good as you can expect an all rounder to be in the mud and rolls pretty well too. Has never squirmed on me, even in a tight turn.
I ride Surrey hills and Swinley often and my bike is a Blue Pig.Hit \'em hard hit \'em fast0 -
Hans Dampf's are huge though and the OP specified narrower tyres. Your Blue Pig has very good tyre clearance.
My 2.35" Hans Dampf's are a lot wider than my 2.5" Minions, they are enormous. They wouldn't fit in my Giant Trance XTransition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Conti verts were great but big at 2.3. Currently run Panaracer Xc fire pro's 2.1s back and front. I've ridden these in every condition and on every terrain, and they've been pretty much top notch every time. Guy I ride with is using On One smorgasbords and loves em (based on maxxis), 2.25 and under £30 a pair.

Pretty much what I've done - as it turns out I was offered a pair of 1 ride old, folding Fire XC Pros for £20 today so am going to give them a shot
Thanks for the suggestions though, if the Panaracers don't work out I'll work my way through the listCannondale Synapse 105

Fair point about HDs and rear clearance = but that shouldn't be an issue as a front tyre.
Perhaps go for Specialized Purgatory 2.2s I've liked every Specialized tyre I've ever run, they just don't make once for my niche currently.

Fire XCs are probably the worst tyre I've ever used. Narrow, heavy, and no grip.
Nobby Nic (or Racing Ralphs) or Hans Dampfs would get my shout.0 -

+1 for Nobby Nics - get a 2.2 for the rear and an HD for the front.
Schwalbe all the way.Hit \'em hard hit \'em fast0 -

Just goes to show the range of views and personal opinion. I just dumped Schwalbes for the panaracer xc fire pro 2.1 foldable :7)Family, Friends, Fantastic trails - what else is there
