Which helmet

Ok so my Mrs has just knocked my my helmet off the table, so I'm going to need a new one. I was looking at the kask ones being a team sky fan but I can't justerfy £120. I'm just interested in wich you guys would recommend for price, comfort and style?

Kask Mojito. Having tried over 20 lids (including the more expensive KASK) it was the best one for me in terms of fit, feel, weight etc.

It's like shoes though, you really need to try them on.

So did it break. Check it for damage. Just falling off a table should not do any harm.

Unless your table is abnormally high off the ground. I don't see why it'd need replacing.

agreed.. the outer shell is cosmetic anyway its the foam that does the impact protection (to a v small amount)

It might be worth negotiating a cash settlement instead and spending the money on some other bit of kit

I was under the impression that cycle helmets were the same as motor bike helmets and the foam inside is designed to take a big impact. Once it has took an impact it is not really effective no more. If this ain't the case then great but please be 100% sure with the advice you are giving. I don't really like wearing a helmet when I ride anyway but a wife and two children meens I have to. To be riding around in one that's only going to stop me scratching my head and not absurd impact I wouldn't bother with it.

So what impact would the foam have taken ? Unless you were wearing the helmet at the time ?

If its not cracked - then you don't need to replace it.

(helmets help but the best idea is not to come off at all)

Nothing like a motorcycle helmet. They are much heavier and stronger and give much more protection. Cycle helmets are tested to give protection in a direct blow at about 12 mph.
If the polystyrene has not been cracked or crushed then it should be fine.

+1 on the Kask Mojito, purchased around 2 month ago, brilliant bit of kit, doesn't make you look like you have a mushroom on your head & feels great when wearing

The cheapest I can find the mojito for is £100, any recommendations for a cheaper one?

Well clearly the one you already have as has been said already. Cycle helmets don't have the same mass as a motorbike helmet and therefore won't damage themselves in the same way under a light drop. Try falling four feet onto the floor (eg clipless moment distance) and compare how much that hurts you to dropping a cat the same distance (please note, I do not condone dropping cats for experimental purposes unless from a height of at least 100 feet).

If you must waste money for the sake of it, cheap Giros are probably a good bet. My old Havoc was barely heavier than the top range Ionos and cost a third of the price.

Giro Savant - bought it on the strength of a very good cycling plus review for about £37. It also seems to have a lot of the top end features, including the tightening system for a much cheaper price.

I liked it so much that I accidentally bought a Giro Advantage a few weeks later!

LAS Squalo. Really nice VFM helmet. Looks really good & has quite a distinctive look. Very comfy also & has both vertical & horizontal adjustments, aswell as summer & winter detachable padding. I also have LAS Victory as my everyday helmet, which is quality too.

I've got one of these in matt black and absolutely love it. Looks great. No mushroom issues. Great fit and really adjustable.
