Playstaion 3 choices...

Decided to buy a Playstaion 3 for the wee fella, but, as I have no interest in gaming, I don't really know what bundle to go for!
Should I go for the 500GB PS3 Slim, or is 12GB enough?
What else, besides games, is needed, to make it all work well.

I don't want to get into an exchange on the 'rights and wrongs' of modern youth through gaming, blah, blah, blah...
Just some good helpful info, so we can enjoy a seemless entry into the world of gaming

The big one. I bought mine a 40gb (a while back now) and he filled it up in a few minutes and replaced the hard drive with a 340gb. They download movies, music etc (all legally I'm sure, and definitely no porn). It's kind of like a computer that plays games, which come to think of it is kind of like a computer.

    Thanks.
I'm probably more concerned with needing other stuff, outside of the bundle, to make it all the better!...
But, was kinda resigned to getting the 500GB model.

  • Games wise Assassin's Creed(3), Uncharted(2,3), Battlefield 3 are favorites. And my brother has good things to say about F1 2011 and GT5. There's also FIFA if you like football games. Oh and Portal 2 and Little Big Planet are good as well.

My guy just uses controllers. Used to have a steering wheel etc but never used them.

I think I'll get away with just controllers.
As for the games, he's only 7... But, he knows what he wants!

12gb isn't really enough, but if you know someone in IT you should be able to get a decent sized SATA drive to replace the 12gb for buttons or even free.

PS3 super-slim 12GB goes not come with a mounting bracket for a sata drive so you'll need one of those as well if you plan on adding a drive.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.
  • I used to have a 200gb ps3 that got filled after 2 years or so with films, music, demos and the games from the PSN store. Just got a new 500gb slim and in the middle of transfering it all over. Anybody have any idea when the PS4 is due to be released?

    Definately the bigger one.

Just the game data for a couple of games like GT5 is enough to fill 12gb

Apparently sony are waiting on the new xbox before they launch the ps4
  • I got a 12gb super slim with my last phone upgrade, didn't really want it but the contract was the same either way. The hard drive is far too small and only takes a handful of games before it is close to full so wouldn't even consider trying a film or whatever.

I read somewhere that you can attach an external drive to expand memory but have no idea how to go about it.

The hard drive caddies can be had on amazon for £10 http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B009CV1OVC/ref=asc_df_B009CV1OVC11847248?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&tag=googlecouk06-21&linkCode=asn&creative=22206&creativeASIN=B009CV1OVC

I'd buy the 12gb & put in my own hdd. Not a huge saving but not inconsiderate.

An announcement is being made by Sony on the 20th of this month. I reckon it will be the reveal.
