Just fitted my new seatpost and fancied testing it out, shoved some shorts and out the door. Big mistake, i only managed a couple of miles before turning back. There was ice on the seatpost when i put it back in the garage  first time thats happened to me and i rode pretty much all through winter last year. Guess it was fog mixed with below zero temperatures.
Note to self, next time put tights on even if its just for a quick spin!

It was indeed blooming freezing!.. had to do a short walk to the shops earlier and was shaking when i got in. Too cold to ride, well not too cold but dangerous roll on the summer months and lycra shorts!0

Last winter was quite mild and dry. Saw someone in shorts today, they looked freezing, miserable and about to collapse. Its just not worth going out unless you are going to be properly equipped.0

-6.9° yesterday. Should be a pleasant -2° this afternoon though.0

There's no such thing as bad weather there's just the wrong kind of cloths.
Get plenty of layers on topped with a wind proof and fleece tights and good thick gloves.
Just keep the speed down a bit and away you go.0 -
Yes its generally white and cold.0

Until you end up on your ass with a broken collar bone or hip..........0 -
And that's never happened in the summer has it.
If you want stay on the couch that's fine but I'm not going to let a bit of cold stop me from riding.0 -

Well, the chances of ice diminish is the summer months, so you have more chance of falling off in the winter months, even if you ride on gritted roads, the part/s of the road that we cycle on sometimes are very slippery in winter.
Cold doesn't stop me riding at all, was -2 in the garage last night, I still manage to do 12 hours a week, and get out on the road as much as possible, but there are times, the last few days are perfect examples, looks nice out, roads good mostly, but still a big chance of ice in the shade, when it's not appropriate to cycle, regardless of clothing.
A lot of it is macho posturing, but there is nothing macho about struggling to walk home with a busted hip.......0 -
I don't let the temp drop stop me from riding, i just change my routes, drop my speed and reduce the distances for the rides.
Wrapped up like a mummy or as my friend says a camp ninja I felt quite comfortable.0 -
I'm still wearing lycra shorts with baggy shorts over the top on my commute. I don't really notice it after the first couple of hundred yards. Got a comment from someone the other day - apparently I'm 'brave'. :?Kinesis Racelite 4s disc

Snow tyres, ladies and gents, snow tyres.
Apart from that, take care to keep your tendons and joints warm; they can lose elasticity in the cold and sustain damage quite unexpectedly.- - - - - - - - - -

I've got myself a nice softshell, wear it with jersey and t-shirt and that keeps my torso warm. Tights on the legs which stay nice and cosy, winter gloves (Lidl's) with a pair of magic-gloves underneath keep my fingers warm.
Pull my buff over my head around my ears so just my face is exposed.
Only part of me which gets cold is my feet, but that's because I haven't got any overshoes yet.
They're on the Christmas list though and if i've been a good boy then there'll be no excuse, ice permitting.Hills are like half life - they wait until you're 50% recovered from one before hitting you in the face with the next.

I try to get out on the bike everyday but the cold and icy surfaces on Wednesday and Thursday stopped play, was half hoping the weather forecast would be wrong and could get a ride today and whereas I do not mind if it starts raining while out riding starting off in torrential rain seems mad.
At least the weekend looks better, I am getting withdrawal symptoms, at this rate may have to invest in a turbo trainer....0 -
