Alloy Seatpost in carbon frame

At the moment I've got a carbon seat post in a Specialized Roubaix. I want to use a seatpost bag http://www.ortlieb.com/_prod.php?lang=e ... eatpostbag for longer Audax rides. These aren't good to carbon seatposts so is there any reason why I shouldn't put an alloy seat post into my carbon frame?

  • I inserted an alu post into my carbon frame weeks ago and she did not complain at all..

Be gentle to start and it will be fine

put some assembly compound on before fitting

otherwise if moisture gets in there the post may corrode, especially if the roads have been salted, the corrosion products take up more volume, so the post can become extremely difficult to remove/adjust

  • Hmm, I wonder what extras are on the Rockin' Rydell version?

(Maybe I should have kept that thought to myself...)

No reason at all, but do use a seatpost with an anodised finish and apply a barrier compound otherwise you'll get galvanic corrosion between the alloy and the carbon, particularly with exposure to water. Least worst scenario is a stuck seatpost, worst scenario is a cracked frame due to the oxide built-up.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
