I agree, but if you only ride during day light hours, why are complaining about someone riding with no lights? It's still dark at 6:30 you know.0 -
I'd imagine the OP was driving at 6:30
I was on my way home around 5 this evening and passed a stealth rider going the other way. He had a rear light on but no front - which may well be the wrong way to do it if you are only going to have a single light.Faster than a tent.......0 -
I saw a big fat middle aged moron riding a mountain bike the other night down a main road. No lights, wearing black.
I thought 'prick'.0 -
It really is unbelievable the number of cyclist I see that:
- have no light at all even though it's dark. Idiots.
- have lights, but because it's not really dark at ~7:30 - 8:30 am decide they don't need to have them on. Idiots.
- have sh!t little token lights, as if they don't see why they need lights, but the law says they do so they make a token effort. Idiots.
There's no excuse these days when good lights are ridiculously cheap.More problems but still living....0 -
I've got a little (a little) sympathy for the younger ones who ride with no lights. I did this when I was young so it's hard to come down in judgement. A mixture of arrogance, belief that it would happen to someone else and the problem with expense of getting lights - you tend not to be too loaded when you're young.
However this all changed when I got my first car and nearly hit a cyclist with no lights who I only saw at a T-junction when they were about to hit one of my front lights. It was a real moment of clarity seeing just how invisible you are to drivers from the other perspective.
This is perhaps missing from some of the younger offenders (and most are young I think).
Older cyclists have no excuse and really are idiots - no sympathy.0 -
Even in day light I run a tail light and have my cheapo led light on the front just in case I ride through fog, or trees etc. these things literally cost <£30

I cringe when I see cyclists with no lights and/or dressed in dark colours during an early morning (dark) or dark evening commute, it's just crazy!
Why do people put themselves in such danger? Cyclists can be hard enough to see in the dark at the best of times without helping the matter by wearing dark clothes and having no lights!0 -
Rode past an older gent last week, and he had a tiny flashing rear light which I only saw from about 10m away. He was wearing an orange hi-vis vest, but it looked ten years old, was very grubby and not very reflective at all, and he had a dark rucksack on!
When I pointed out that he was hardly visible and asking for trouble, all I got was a grunt in reply

The amount of times I see people lock their bikes up without removing their lights or sometimes flashing is ridiculous. Maybe the folk had theirs stollen. :roll:0

Riding in to work the other day I could see something moving in the distance but was unsure, I thought it was a deer or something similar. Now bearing in mind it was 3am and about 4 miles from the nearest light the last thing I expected to be coming the other way was another cyclist! He was wearing black clothing, had no reflectors or lights and was virtually invisible. Dumbstruck I carried on, half a mile up the same road two sugar beet lorries thundered past me on thier way to a meeting with said cyclist. God knows how it went but there were no reports of any collisions that day, thankfully!Norfolk, who nicked all the hills?

No excuse these days. Lights are cheap and batteries last for ages in LED lights. No need to spend ridiculous money, although I understand why some people do.
Not like the bad old days when I used to spend half of my pocket money on D cells that lasted about an hour. Can you still buy dynamos?0
