If im swapping out my sram gxp chainset for a shimano HTII double, do i need the shell faced? Should it already have been done being a full bike build that came with a external BB already fitted?

if you don't know if it has been done, get it done before fitting. Many frames do not come prefaced.

However if your GXP has been lasting well, then it might be ok.

I've had about a year out of the GXP and it's still alive. I may get it checked by the LBS anyway as i need to take my shock in for servicing as it doesn't go into propedal now.

As a year out of a GXP is about 4 times the average it sounds like your shell must be square.
