I'm looking at getting my first pair of SPD SL's and it's a toss up between the pd-5700 105's or the R540. Has anyone had any experience with both these sets?

I was after some new cleats for my shoes so i spent a bit of time lookind around online for best price etc.
i found the R540's are on special offer for £23.99 with cleats at wiggle. The 105's are on offer at chain reaction cycles at £33.99 with cleats. Both are excellent prices, the best I could find. The cleats on their own are £15 - £20!

I've got them both. Not much between them, the 105's are a bit lighter, slimmer and no doubt the bearings may be a bit better etc.
I would definitely recommend either of them, it's up to you to justify the extra tenner!

Well the Mrs is buying them for me as a xmas present so i might have to point in the direction of the 105's if they are the better of the 2.

I ride a mixture of both and am not sure of the difference really in performance - as AFF40N said - for £10 and for a "good" bike, I'd prob go 105. Just nice to know that you've got the best that your money allows you to get.
