I'm looking to do the WHW next year solo, and wondering what would suit it best, FS or HT.

Anyone done it on either/both care to suggest which ?

  • Only done bits but a 100 mm full Susser would be my choice,
  • a good small travel full sus would be best
  • I did it 20 years ago on a Raleigh Marauder (rigid) ... almost put me of cycling for life. Light full suss is the way ... the good stuff is from Tyndrum north ... you'll need to get the bike on your shoulder through Loch Lomond and you might aswell take the pedal off there to save jabbing your calf ... yep you'll be pushing.

Any thoughts on how a 29er HT might get on ?? As I now have one as well as a short travel FS

Planning on doing the WHW as well, and currently going round my local bike shops in Edinburgh for a new FS and pretty much all of the staff I've spoken to reckon a 29er would be ideal.
    Norco Sight Killer B

    Giant Trance X3 - stolen.
  • I'd go for a short(-ish) travel full-susser, something like a Scott Genius or a Santa-Cruz Blur LT(C). I reckon a full-suss 29er would be pretty good, too. Although I've got a Scott MC10, so I may be a little bit biased  .
