Hi

Right I need your help, which is the better camera the hero 3 white edition or the hero 2 outdoor edition?
I'm comparing these 2 as I have found them both for a similar price online.

Any advice, help, experience with either camera etc would be greatly appreciated!!

Cheers

Hero 2, not had a play with the new one yet but can't see the point of the white as its only 5mp whereas the hero2 is 11mp, go black tho, they look awesome :)
  • If your still looking cdc are doing a deal where you may get £40 off

They both record at 1080p 30fps and 720p 60fps as far as I'm aware. The stills are 5mp on the white vs 11mp on the hero2 (12mp on the black).

The 3 is wi-fi enabled and the 2 isn't. Although you can buy the wi-fi backpac for the 2
The 3 is smaller, although the 2 is hardly what you'd call massive.

I'm not sure if the white does 120fps like the hero2 does at WVGA quality (the black will do it at 240fps)

To me, the white looks like the poverty spec version of the new camera. Other than being a bit smaller and lighter than the 2, it's losing a lot of the little features. You need to decide if those features are a deal breaker for you or not.
  • Thanks very much for all your help

Looking around Ive found the Hero2 Outdoor for £185, think I'm going to go for that beacause as you say the Hero3 is smaller but the 2 isn't big either.
I would love the Black but unfortunately if I want to be able to afford my families xmas presents then i'll have to settle (such a hard life haha)

Cheers again and Merry Christmas (it's december now so not too early......just a bit premature)

I've probably misunderstood this, but doesn't this mean the video will be sharper too? I assume a 11Mp sensor is better than a 5 Mp one for stills or video.

haha love it! unplanned purchases are always the best type of purchases! I'm definitely going to get the HD Hero 2! My christmas list is now full of the different mounts and straps (yea including the chest strap) for it! The K-Edge one is meant to be pretty good if not a bit pricey but it's what BikeRadar have used in this test http://www.bikeradar.com/mtb/news/artic ... ead-35868/

    So must be decent!

I think it should be CRC, as they have an offer of £40 off, if you spend over £150!
I did google CDC, which took me to Centre for Disease Control! Not a good site on the works PC

  • If it is meant to be CRC then http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Sear ... arch=gopro that is the link to it and the Deal is £40 off when you spend £199, which is pretty good seeing as most of their stuff is pretty cheap. But I'd suggest that it's not the cheapest place to buy a Gopro Hero2 from (probably pretty cheap using the code with the Hero3 though)
Here are a couple of alternatives where I found the GoPro Hero 2 cheaper

    https://twelve50bikes.com/shop/GoPro-HD ... ition-/133

    http://www.digitalrev.com/product/gopro ... country=GB

  • Also forgot to add on DogCamSport! If you are looking at getting a wifi bacpac and remote with the camera or a spare battery they do some very good packages. They are quick to respond to emails and queries too.

I must add I have not bought from any of the retailers I have posted so I can't vouch for them but amazon is pretty reputable so up to you
