This is a question on behalf of a colleague who's thinking about riding out the A20 (during the day) on Saturday. do any of you know that road and is it doable? From Streetview on googlemaps it seems quite hardcore for a bike.

Quite a long road, and some of it is dualled, which part specifically is he planning on riding?
  • Out from London to Sidcup, is the plan.

Well out to Eltham / Blackheath it is just normal busy London type road, perfectly rideabale if you are comfortable on those type of roads with lots of traffic in close proximity. From there on its a busy Dual Carriageway which is probably best avoided. Hope this helps

I'd agree with this having done it regularly BUT once it turns to proper dual carridgeway it does so quickly without much warning or opportunity to leave. County Gate is the last chance to escape, but I'd be tempted to leave sooner than that or even come through Eltham depending on exact destination and experience.
