Help finding a bike ??

Now having read the thread and blog about the restoration of an old Peugeot Road bike, and a small article in CP a good couple of months ago, It's set me to thinking , I know you can smell the smoke from there
Picture the scene Xmas '79 or '80 I'm 11 or 12 years old and I come down stairs on Christmas morning to find sat under the tree a shiny new Peugoet "racing" bike, it was beautiful a sort of pearlescent silver white, 10 speed , down tube shifters, and weird brake levers that weren't only in the usual position but had extension along the top of the handle bars so that one could brake withouth being in the drops. And to the amazement of my school friends as light as a feather (well it probably weighed about as much as a Mini but compared to the usual offerings at the time it was feather weight)
It was however massive, my dad put some "blocks" on the cranks that meant the pedals came half way up them and I could just about ride it, it was a thing of beauty to my young eyes ( despite my bollocks being permanently black and blue from unshcheuled interfaces with the cross bar)
I rode that bike almost daily form then until I joined the army I loved it, but what with finances, girls and beer getting in the way, not to mention raising a family cycling sort of disappeared from my life until recently thank fully
Now after all that waffle the quiestion would be
How the hell do I find out what model that bike was, and could I find one now to restore ???
