Hello,
Boardman launched a new sport model of road bike today....

a good spec and price for a beginners bike or does the Btwin Triban 3 still best value on a budget?

looks a nice bike but same spec as halfords own carrera virtuoso so to my mind its not worth £150 more. The btwin is still a good buy.Personally i think the halfords snob possy will say its boardman, so its better. At the end of the day its personal choice so pays your money etc.

  • triban 3 has a carbon fork if that is anything to go by.
  • For the same money you can get Sora and a carbon fork from Decathlon. Think I would go with that if I spent £500 on a new bike. Boardman is 0.8kg heavier also. However would probably go 2nd hand at that price point.

I don't like it because it is solid red... Which is the reason I also don't like the Triban 3 lol! I know you can't expect too much at £500, but you've got to like the look of what you ride to enjoy it. However that said i'm sure it'll sell to people that don't want to go down the second hand route for an affordable first road bike!

  • Nice to sea a different colour for a Boardman other than batleship grey. I've just purchased a Specialised Allez as my wet weather winter bike and it's red in colour and looks really nice. When choosing a new bike I had a look at the Boardman but the colour put me off, that new one looks ok.
