Buckled wheel...

Hello :D

I am trying to get rid of some random bike tat to make some space at home (isn't Ebay a marvellous thing :D ) and I have a front wheel kicking around that I buckled ages ago at Sherwood Pines. According to the bike shop the wheel itself can't be fixed (whoops), but is there any value in the Hope hub? Would anyone be bothered to get the hub out to re-use?

I'm not after a value (i'll stick it on Ebay at a 99p start price) - purely whether it's worth bothering with!

Cheers!

yrs there would be. i would be getting some GOOD wire cutters and cutting the spokes out and put the hub up for sale.

reduction in postage cost would cover the cost of the cutters. (or get the LBS to do it). take cookies.

Agree with Nick, I did a similar thing a few years ago and made a killing on tat I didn't want! Sold some Hope XC4 brakes that I didn't think worked (and said as much) with 150/130 rotors (mental!) for about £90!

just unlace the wheel, a bit slower than cutting the spokes, but free

Just unscrew the spokes. Should be able to see the screw heads through the rim.

Or you could be a man and get an angle grinder on it, just remember to wear safety glasses and do it in the kitchen, away from any soft furnishings.

  • Definitely worth bothering with.

Personally I'd unlace it (although that's less important, just that a full set of - even used - spokes is a small bonus to include with the hub... you can probably guess, a buckled rim is not).

Out of interest, what colour is the hub, and what rim?

It's an XM719 rim with a Hope Pro II hub (black I think - not a special colour at any rate!).

I'll have a crack at sorting the wheel out on Sunday!

    • It was as described, the hub will be built into a new rim and it was a pleasure meeting Miss Notax. Having now met her I am still amazed that she managed to do any damage to it in the first place!!

I was quite proud I was going fast enough to buckle my wheel so well - it was a very fast loop of Sherwood Pines that did that! Well, sadly not that fast after I had piled into the ground in a bloody (literally) heap

It's us shorties you have to watch out for you know
