Hey everyone,
Just wanted to get some opinions on which bike I should buy

Specialized camber elite 2012 - green & black - £1450

Or

Giant trance x 29er 2 2013 - £1499

Just need some help comparing the components as I'm no expert on the mechanics of a bike

Thanks

These sites give the spec but I won't be buying from these

Both a very poor spec for the price. What price was the LBS doing them for? I'd not pay more than £1200 for either.

The spec is never going to be great on the big brands at that price point, that's not why you'd buy one of these bikes. If you're looking for value for money then a direct sale brand like Canyon or YT Industries are what you want.

If you want a 'big brand' bike then get a test ride and find which one rides best for you and look at their respective warranties, support etc, and ignore (largely) the spec. Also one's a 26 the other a 29 so have you thought about which one you want? again test ride to see the difference if you don't know.
  • I think a 29er would suit me better for what ill be doing but there's not many 29ers available within in my price range.
I'd prefer to buy from a bike shop as you get to see the bike in person and you know what your getting so used bikes are kinda a no no.

The specialized is a 26 which is what I've always had so I will be used to the feel and will probably be able to throw it around a bit more.

This is the bike shop that I've always bought from and plan on buying the full sus from here
Any other bikes you might recommend from here?

    Thanks,
  • Between the 2 which would you buy?
  • Prices are steep - I got my 2012 camber expert for just over £1500 from my lbs - they're down to £1500 on loads of websites now, why pay more.
  • They match other bike shops, I was looking at the camber expert 2012 but they no longer have any in stock

maybe the trex fuel ex6 if you can stretch to it, or the ex5. out of the two you linked i'd buy the specalized purely as i don't really like the look of 29ers (especially that giant one).

I didn't like my Camber much, tbh. Obviously I will not admit this when I come to sell it, it'll be the best frame ever.

Giant and Specialized both have test fleets, see if you can try before you buy.

the spec on this is easily as good if not better than the 2013 model, plus you'd have money left over for the inevitable upgrades
  • If it is a 29r you want then generally you will pay a bit more for them than a 26 inch but if it's the Giant you want you can always upgrade the components over time as your still getting an excellent frameset.

  • giant give a full lifetime warranty on the frame to the original owner and replace one in a week or two, the parts on any bike will wear and will need replacing the frame is the only thing you would keep if you like it of course

If you are looking a FS 29er then I would consider the Anthem and specifically a 2012 model as some are still available. cheaper and better spec like for like

then buy from another shop, surely their prices should be the same as all other authorised spesh dealers, if there not, theres something wrong
