Looking for a bike for one of my kids and got a possibility of a 49cm Tricross frame. Size wise I think it might be OK but most of the reviews describe it as more of a tourer/commuter type bike than a race bike - she's going to be using it to race on - cross and probably road too. What do people think - worth going for or wait for something else - I don't want to saddle her with something overbuilt and heavier than she needs but realistically the kind of alternatives within budget will be stuff like Paul Milnes cross bikes, older Empellas etc not carbon.

it's a hard life if you don't weaken.

  • Just remember you cant race on road with a disk braked bike atm, i assume you already know this though and its the non disk frame.

Yes it's got cantis with it so non-disc - real shame the UCI haven't changed that rule because I'm not a fan of cantis for road riding and if it suffers fork judder under braking that'll be another thing to sort out.
