What is the difference between Shimano M087 and M088 shoes?

I'm looking to buy either of these shoes. They are the same price and from what I can tell the only difference is that the M088 has a roomier toebox and a fiberglass mid sole, where as the M087 has a fiberglass outer sole.
I'm not really sure what difference each sole would make..?

The sole will make the shoe stiffer, there basically a redesign using newer material,
I'd say that they are a great entry level race style shoe,
