Hi all,
I have just come back from a week in Lanzarote cycling just want to recommend www.lanzarote-bikes.com
I emailed 4 company's on the island before I left to arrange hire and these were the only company to come back to me. They were friendly and helpful in there emails so I hired a bike from IIona and Thomas.
They bought me 54cm and a 56cm to try at my hotel as I mentioned I was I between sizes which was a nice touch.
The bike I hired was a Felt F4 with 105, I have to say it was set up amazinging well gears were spot on, brakes tight and new pads, tyre pressures spot on and wheels ran true and no worn or grinding bearings in sight, after talking to Thomas he told me he prided him self on his gear set up. They supplied two inner tubes, tyre levers, pump, multi tool and saddle bag. Maps with suggested routes and the piece of mind if I had any problems any where on the island to just call and I would be rescued.
All in all a great couple providing excellent bikes and when you take in to account as I did the cost of the excesss baggage charge, cost of a good quality bike bag and the stress of my pride and joy been damaged by the baggage handlers just easier option to hire.
I hope this helps some one.
Thomas told me as they say in Germany " chain to the right"

That's the service you want for a stress free holiday!!. Hats off to them.

Tommy's Bikes were great for me last year. The Cinelli Experience I got was a little beat up but maintained very well (crisp shifting, no creaks etc).

Now stop boasting about your holiday while we're struggling in gales and torrential rain  .

i got back from there late last week...

mostly cloudy, rarely worth putting on sunblock, the wind was just lethal some days, and we had so much rain that the desert went distinctly green and a few pools appeared

aside from being a few degrees warmer, the weather made me feel right at home

    sigh
my bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny

+1 for Lanzarote bikes. I hired a Felt from them back in October 2010 - great service (delivered to and collected from Arrieta), great bikes.
  • More info .lads, how many pennies & the german expression?
  • It cost €25 a day to hire. Thomas used to run tommys bike but left and set up his own business. His bikes are definitely not beat up. His bikes are that good it's made me realise I need to get my bike serviced and my wheels trued. He said next year he is going with all new German cucuma bikes. The weather was 23c to 25c cloudy to sunny take big water bottles and a few euros for a coffee or a bottle of water

25€ a day is more expensive than hiring a car. Recently had a break and was also quoted this figure and was then thinking I should have brought my own bike. Excluding the cost of the hard case that would give many years service it must be considerably cheaper to pay the Easy Jet fixed price.

    Any thoughts?

I always take my own bike when cycling abroad but it's definitely a hassle so I guess it's just down to you whether having your own bike and saving a bit of money is better or worse than the convenience but added cost of hiring over there.

i used to hire when i went to portugal, but one day i realised i travel enough to make it worth taking my own

on monarch it's just under 20 quid each way to take a bike, allowing for this plus a decent bike box, compared to hiring it only takes 2 or 3 trips to break even (i got a bikeboxalan box, resale value will be ok if i stop using it)

you do need to make sure your insurance covers everything, airline lost/damaged baggage limits are way below cost of the bike

you need to take tools and other essentials, it's an hour or so each end to disassemble/pack-unpack/assemble, and you have the pleasure of riding your own bike, it's well worth it imho

this is if the main purpose of the trip is cycling, if it were just for a couple of casual rides i'd look at hire by the day from somewhere close, depends where you stay but main tourist areas probably all have local hire options

Sorry if I gave the wrong impression. I only meant that the one I had wasn't the best looking (somehow at some point it had been caught by some spray paint among other things). I'm pretty sure that I got the last available bike though so early bookers etc would almost certainly get a more shiny one.

Like I said, mechanically it was spot on and I would recommend Tommy's Bikes to anyone.
