Nope. Not biting.
If I give it away, all the armchair bike builders will chime in. Without even seeing it, it'll be the wrong colour.
Everyone is going to have to wait (myself included - I haven't even had a proper pic of it built up yet!)0 -
Loving the look of the build so far and the stem bars combo is awesome, remind me of Klunker bars.
I assume this is going to be a rigid build?
Cant wait to see the finished product.

Um... did you not see the tubes laid out in the first (opening post!). It has bounce front and rear0 -
Hi there guys. Ed let me know about this thread so I thought I might jump in and provide a bit of colour. (I added the "u" for our friends on GMT.)
Frame is at paint right now. Airbrush work is in process as I type and I have seen a pic of the frame all masked up. The fork and bar are painted and I am building the fork back up today. Pics will be sent to Ed and he is free to do with them as he so chooses. But I will add the caveat that full bike pics will have to wait to be posted for public consumption until after NAHBS as this will be one of the show bikes.
The frame is a bi-laminate build. The lugs were hand cut with a design that Ed and I both worked on. They started life as raw 0.058" 4130 steel pipes and were turned down on a lathe to get the OD of the pipes to 0.035". Filing on 0.058" is murder. Once the individual pieces of the lugs were cut they were mitered up and then brazed with the tubes all in one shot. The rear triangle is from Ventana as they sell their assemblies to other qualified builders. The handlebar is from Groovy Cycles and from there I braze it up with a stem for the combo. Rody at Groovy tig welds the bars and then I lay a small bronze fillet overt the tig bead for aesthetics since the rest of the bike is fillet brazed. The fork is a Rock Shox Revelation 650b that has been torn apart for paint so that it will match the bike. This bike will truly look like a full package versus various parts slapped together. Build kit was a "no expense spared" endeavour. (Again, the "u" was added for those of you who spell it that way)
Building FS frames is always a lot of work as there are so many moving parts that have to work in concert with each other and any deviation from the ideal will yield a less than stellar bike. Couple that with the fact that this was a bi-lam build that required hand cutting all the lugs and the end result is very sore hands. I think it was worth it but the final arbiter is Ed and Ed alone.
Thanks for reading.

Here we go... some painted pics of the bars and forks. As Tim says, you'll have to wait till NAHBS to see it built up!

Nice work
Are you aviation boys by any chance?0 -
I'm wating for the red 'remove before take-off' flags pinning the rear suspension!
Not my cup of tea and I still struggle with steel and FS but as an excercise on making a work of art this is great.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -

love this feature0 -
Oh my, I was going to say that painting it at all is a mistake, as that lug work would look lovely as it is, but would be a pain to keep nice looking. However having seen those photos, I'm thinking it was a good call!! The fork looks awesome in that colour, are they revelations? The airbrushing on the frame looks ace too!0

I've seen the finished pics now, and as far as I'm concerned it looks amazing. A lot of the frame has remained raw - I didn't want a crazy paint scheme and I think the painted parts give it just the right amount of contrast.
I'll leave it to Tim to share some pictures if he wants to - If not I'll have them up when NAHBS starts!
*Edit* Oh and it weighs in at about 12.5kg - not too bad eh?0 -
Scratch that, permission granted...for some of them anyway:

I don't normally post on bike build stuff - but, wow, that is a truely beautiful piece of work.0

Wow...There really are no words. You'd better be able to look as good riding this thing as it does standing still or I'll be having it off you and putting it on my wall. Forget bike porn, there's so much teasing going on here and slight flashes of what's yet to be revealed...this is bike burlesque!0

Well the bike was in a show here locally just before it was loaded up and shipped to Denver for NAHBS. So there are pics of the complete bike out there. May as well spill it here.

It may well be the angle of the stem/bars playing tricks on my eyes but that head angle looks crazy steep to me.
The craftsmanship is second to none though and I love the understated paint job, the finishing kit is bloody good too!0 -
Wow! I wouldn't want to get that mucky! Superb craftsmanship!0

Whats going on with the controls, have you got fingers that are totally different lengths on both hands?0
-
Rebel- It may be the stem that is playing with your eyes since it is a negative rise stem. The head angle is 69.5 degrees.
Rick- Ha! It's funny you mention that. I was playing with lever setup and swapped one side but not the other. I never noticed it until after I had taken pictures and was looking at the pictures before I noticed. It has since been fixed. Good catch by you though.0
