Any reason not to use an SLX lever with a Zee caliper (for a front brake, SLX to go on the back)?

Pretty much all Shimano levers and calipers are interchaneable, the ZEE lever is basically SLX anyway.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.
  • I was told today that the Saint and Zee levers push a bit more fluid than SLX/XT/XTR, but presumably that should just result in more modulation at the expense of a bit of power?

If it were true, the smaller cylinder would have longer lever travel and higher peak braking, however the info given by Shimano in their press releases contradicts this, the Saint lever is an XT (or was it XTR) bldy assembly with an SLX lever which is tougher, so will move the same fluid.

  • Thanks. If Shimano would be clearer in tech docs it would be helpful. Press releases are so full of weasel words who knows what the truth is
  • eg. this would seem to suggest that Zee and SLX master cylinders are the same, but it doesn't specify that the volume is identical - just that all of the other parts are interchangeable
