I generally change tyres the night before a race based on what I know about the venue and the weather conditions. I do have 2 sets of wheels though, so if I'm really not sure - as with (for example) Mayhem, I fit 1.5" muds to one set, and Furious Freds to the other, not gonna need anything else!

    Cheers for the reply.
Is it not messy, when changing tyres with the Stans fluid still reasonably fresh?

Nah, actually very easy- the sealant settles into the bottom of the tyre when left alone for a while. You can actually reuse it- pour it into the other tyre, or suck it back up using a syringe or one of the wee white stans bottles.

Yep, I just use the little red Stan's scoop to transfer it, works fine.

I've got to a place where I have a dozen or so sets of tyres I know will inflate instantly on either set of wheels with a trackpump, so if I need to change I'm confident they'll work.

That said... the latest Schwalbes being so tight can sometimes cause issues!

    Not arf!...
Very bloody tight. But I found that the RoRo's (1.8) I bought from a shop sealed first time (on Crest's). Whereas the OEM RoRo's (2.1's) were a looser fit (on DT Swiss) and took several attempts to get them sealed.

I just pray the Mud X's seal as good

Never had a problem with Mud Xs, sure you'll be fine, and once I can get the Schwalbes on they go up a treat, it's just getting there that's a problem! Particularly with cold/wet/muddy hands/wheels.

Allegedly the 2013 Schwalbes have a better bead to make them fit more easily.

I trashed a pair of Pedro's tyre levers!

I had a Podium rim which started 'letting go' of tyres immediately after I resorted to a tyre lever on a stubborn Ralph. Ended up replacing the rim, after it destroyed 4 Schwables, 3 brand new. No visible rim damage, but I suspect I damaged it somehow using levers. Not used them in years, that'll teach me! Particularly on 285g rims!
