Front derailleur - much of a muchness

I need a new front derailleur for my new frame build as my current one is wrong clamp size etc.

Is it even remotely worth looking past X7 for X9 SLX or XT?

I have new X7 rear derailleur and run the 3x9 X7 triggers, and thought that with a few sales on at the moment I could pick up a better front derailleur cheaply. Of course an x7 would be cheaper still!!
I need a 34.9mm/high clamp/top pull/bottom or top swing - it's for a 456 Carbon.

Thoughts gratefully received.

Much of a muchness in my view - don't even save a great deal of weight going up the range I don't think. Just make sure you get the right one for your frame.

+1, I swapped an XT for a Deore, the Deore is lighter and shifts better........
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.
  • Not in the same range.
  • Thanks All. Guess ill keep it X7 as there's plenty about for a good price. Or Deore if I see one.

  • Deore gears are pretty much still the Best vfm groupo out there Imo!
Although they are all much of a muchness, youl see more difference with XTR shifters and a deore mech than deore shifters and XTR mech, if twas mee I'd keep it all the same, but I like things to match as best as possible,
It does also depend what model years your ccomparing, if your looking at M752 XT from back in the early 00's to current deore 590 series then te deore will feel much better, trickle down technology has had 10 years to filter through the range!
