very glad to announce i have just completed my longest session on the turbo! now it was only an hour but as everyone knows its so mind numbing i have not done beyond 30 mins...or even made it on the turbo at all most of the time! i managed to get myself through this by setting up infront of the tv (chance to watch walking dead). a couple of hour sessions a week and some good miles outside at the weekend and i should be pretty happy with my winters training.it would be my best training by a long way in the winter months....since bike was stollen last year i missed 2 months! just thought i would share my joy!

Ah hour?,.. i thought you was going to say 3 or 4 hours!

I find an hour on the turbo shoots by. I do about 3 or 4 sessions a week at the moment, all an hour long each.

Have you tried watching training DVD's, they are excellent to zone into.

Against yourself maybe, but not against every one else. Its just willy waving saying " is that all..or i do x amount"
    who cares.
The OP was happy with what he done and so its an achievment for him, regardless of how it stacks up against any one else. And yes i was paying him a compliment.

Sufferfest DVDs help a lot but The Walking Dead is a great choice!

  • I use these guys. Makes it more tolerable when you can do it with a video screen and ask for a bloke to give you some motivation ..... or even compete.

  • Recently downloaded sufferfest and it does really help turbo sessions, I also only managed 30 mins but since downloading one of their videos managed an hour of pain and sweat and found it a good workout.

oh i cant say i am not competitive and i certainly am against some people i know (a certain person way way more built for cycling than me beating him is a motivation) but i work nights so fitting training in on work days are dfficult at times, my legs feel good and will be on again in the morning.

If you have a structured session planned before you get on the turbo it really isn't a chore
I reckon an hour is about right for a warm up and decent work out

That will change the way you workout and make the turbo a masochistically enjoyable experience.. I did ThereIsNoTry last night. I was quite shocked when my 3 year old daughter had got out of bed, come down two flights of stairs and was stood in the doorway in tears because "daddy has hurt himself". I was in the final 5 mins of the workout and hadn't realised the noises i was making.... She was right though, i had hurt myself.

As ever with these things, it's still up to you how hard you push it, but it gives some structure and makes the training smart and hard.

I too use the sufferfest vids, they are great and quite motivational.

I find an hour is about right too - good effort.
