Unfortunately I got the pad-less version of the Pearl Izumi Men's Elite Barrier Thermal bib by mistake and before sending it back thought I'd try to find an insert/pad but can't seem to find any (except from the US). I can find manufacturers/suppliers but not single inserts for general sale.

Are padless tights meant to be worn over shorts with pads or just sans-pads or??

I'm confused! All my other kit has them sewn in and that's my pref but before I return them I thought I'd give something new a try....

Thanks for the help. I've searched the forums and seen someone else that was mis-lead by the description on these tights but wasn't able find info on this topic. Maybe my internet searching skills aren't up to scratch...

Or get some of the inner shorts MTBers use under baggies....

Most people just use their usual bibs though.

I only buy unpadded tights, much preferring to wear my big shorts underneath for extra padding, warmth and comfort during the cooler months.
  • Ditto others, wear over or under padded shorts.
  • thanks much everyone for the info. I'll try and see how it goes.
    much appreciated.
  • Boure' will sew a chamois in for you. The Elite chamois is my favorite.

A lot of the lads i cycle with buy several pair of shorts bib or otherwise and wear the unpadded tights over the top. They tend to wear the tights more than once and just change the shorts each time.
Yep, got 7 pairs of bib shorts for all year round commuting + training, can get away with washing the unpadded bib tights once or twice a week depending on how much you sweat. Then

Much better compared to having to wash the same pair of padded bib tights every day, or wear the same pair for multiple days without washing? Or having numerous pairs that you can only use half the year. not worth it!

  • Is it only me who buys unpadded and wears them under my shorts? :D

I did that for years , but couldn't stand the ridicule it attracted. Wearing tights under your shorts stops them slipping down so much. Bib tights is better but more washing and drying and cost.
