I was just wondering if anyone has knocked up an electric motor assisted road bike in a shed anywhere that assists above the legal speed that a stock bike would.

This is the only one I could find after a quick look .. but only assists up to 15mph .. http://www.cytronex.com/bikes/supersix.html

It'd be pretty cool to be able to cruise along at 40-50mph to work in the morning if you hotwired one.
All the above is just advice .. you can do whatever the f*ck you wana do!

You say, "only assists up to 15mph", what happens after that? does it switch off?

The older I get, the better I was.

  • There a loads of ebikes, and ebike kits. I've not seen a road bike fitted with an electric motor as stock but there is no reason why you couldn't do it from the kits. There was the kit that hid the motor in the bottom bracket and battery in the seat post that cancellara was accused of using a couple of years back! A Goi Bike with drop bars would look quite nice.

In the UK electric assist must only kick in when the pedals are being turned, and is limited to 15mph. Anything different counts as a motorised vehicle and you need insurance, licence, helmets etc.
