Is there any great difference between Smartwater, Datatag , Immobiliser etc. systems of bike identification?

none will give any protection against theft

imho they are money down the drain, spend extra on a decent lock

if you know the frame number, none have any benefit beyond that - assuming police actually bother checking the frame number when they find a suspect bike, certainly afaik not all forces can/do check all the different id tagging methods

I have heard the same thing.

Money better spent of a tough lock and jotting down the frame number
