I am sorely tempted to get the giant on credit.

How does it compare to a Spesh roubaix?

Also my current ride is a genesis equilibrium in a 56.

I am 5 11 with a 31.5" inside leg, a proper middle aged gut and refer an uprightish position.

Is the Large or the medium large the size I should go for in a Giant.

thanks

sam

I'd say Medium or Medium Large.

    I'm 6ft with a 33" inside leg and ride a M/L.
  • ..tried the Defy Comp 2 against the Roubaix a few weeks back....found the Defy a real stretch - could feel my lower back tugging badly, whereas the Roubaix was instantly comfortable even before any tweaking. If you want upright, the Spesh is the one, by all accounts....me, I'm still keeping my options open 'till I try the Felt Z5....
  • Id say go try one at an lbs if you can. i was thinking of a roubaix or a defy. 58 spesh was fine for reach but too small for my leg length but a 61 was too big. Tried a large defy and it was bang on..rides like a dream as well. Ended up with a large defy composite 1 from the internet for £1499.. :D

Is it not the case that you buy a bike based mainly on reach ( top tube length) and then raise or lower the seat to suit.
  • If i'd went with the 61 spesh i would have had to shorten the stem by about 30mm to feel right, that would affect the way it felt at the front too much.. top tube on the giant is only 575mm standard stem feels right. Horses for courses..

If the Defy was too much of a stretch it was too big, Giant sizing for me should be M/L but I ride a M as it was the most comfortable on a test ride.
Summer - Giant Defy Composite 2 (Force 22) (retd)
    Cannondale Synapse Sram Red ETap
Winter - Boardman CX Team (Rival X1 Hyd)
  • I`m a smidge under 6ft and ride an M/L Defy Adavnced. Fits like a glove.
    2006 Giant XTC
    2010 Giant Defy Advanced
    2016 Boardman Pro 29er

  • 5' 9"; 31" inside leg.

    Defy 3 Comp 2012.

Size M, all generally ok although I may be flipping the stem soon. The saddle had worked itself backwards though, and when I moved it forwards today I was more comfortable neck-wise - so maybe the stem flip won't be needed.
    Is the gorilla tired yet?
