Knocked off my Bike - advice needed.

Yesterday I was knocked off my bike by a driver. Now I have only sufferd bruised and scraped eblow, thigh and knee and have scratched my shifter and hood. (Need to get full Bike shop inspection to make sure no damage to carbon.)

Now this driver tried to flee the sceen of the accident and it was only the fact that witnesses chased him down and draw the attention of the nearby police as it happend outside the police station. I havent even seen the driver and do not have his details as the police took down everything and said they would contact me in a couple of days. The driver did not even come and see me and see if I was ok and apologise, which I didnt like at all.

Obviously I intend to get my bike inspected, but should I visit my doctor to get my bruises and scraps recorded. Although its not gonna kill me it is obviously still causing pain and discomfort.

No wonder the NHS is under terrible strain these days and you can't get an appointment to see the doctor for 3 weeks, by which time you would be cured or dead anyway, with people running off to the doctor whenever they have the slightest bit of pain or discomfort.

If you rode a steel bike you would not need to have the frame checked by the bike shop. Carbon is too fragile for everyday use.

What is wrong with u, i got hit by a driver who considered thst it was ok to drive off and leave me lying in the road. Are u saying its ok for some one go drive into a cyclist as they should be on a steel bike and aslong as u only cause cuts and bruises?

its nothing to do with seeing a doctor for slight pain and discomfort its about recording the injuries caused by the drivers negligence.

I did not say that. The driver is a complete scum bag and a coward. He should buy you a new bike and pay compensation. I assume it was the drivers fault, if so, press for the police to make charges for dangerous driving.

Sorry thats how it came across to me. i belive the police are investigating if they wish to pursue for charges. it all depends if they have enough evidence to convience the cps as the standard of proof requried is beyond reasonable doubt. I am currently anticipating their phone call.

Road rash gets easily infected in which case you need anti biotics.

plus one for British cycling. The most likely outcome that the driver will be prosecuted for leaving the scene but will probably be sent on a driver awareness scheme its highly unlikely that he will be prosecuted for dangerous driving. Take photos of your injuriesand damage to your bike, probably no need to attend docs unless you feel the need ( I am not giving you medical advice), keep clear and detailed records of any costs incurred, days off work etc. Get a crime ref number from the police and speak to your insurers. Andy anyway reading this who isn t a member join britsh cycling as their cover makes the annual fee more than worthwhile

Please don't call me names. He might pay his NI and the reason his NI is so much money is because people these days go to the doctor for stupid little things. Furthermore antibiotics are handed out far too much. This encourages antibiotic resistant bacteria and does not help people develop their own immune system. Salt water is the best thing for road rash.

Dont be silly NI is 4 %. flat. Thats cheap compared to the cost of pvt medical care - try covering everything the NHS covers for that amount of money and you would be shocked at the price
