Worst time to get flat!

Well this morning about 530 after a forced stop cause of stupid taxi not indicating, i suddenly got a flat for no reason.
Any way after about half hour of wrestling with trye levers I got it swapped over and was on my way. good thing I left extra time before work.
Point being any one else had similar encounters?

Had a rear tyre go pop while doing about 30-35 mph down a 14% hill, and approaching a bend. That was definitely not a good time for a flat, though thankfully I managed to come to a safe stop.0

3/4 of the way through today's cx race with no spare in the pits.0

When you have a "handy" mate who has a quick way of doing it. Only to find the method shreds your spare tube leaving you with a long walk.0

First one in 14 months today, half a mile from home and at the end of a ride. I've been waiting for one because they're cutting every hedge they can find in my area.0

There is no good time. It is always inconvenient and leaves you wondering Why me? Why now?0

I once had a puncture in an MTB race on the first lap and it destroyed the brand new tyre (worked out the tyre cost me about £3/mile) and that was the end of my race. :x

Yep another one for me as well... 20 miles in but this time a had a spare tube in the bag...my pal took charge to 'show me how to do it' lol
Quick question though (sorry for hijacking) why do I need extra long valves? I was just told I did by my LBS, noticed on my pals bike they were about half the size?0 -
i need long valves 80mm for my 55mm carbon wheels..
if you have carbon wheels you may be the same
getting a puncture after 96 miles took the wind out of my sails yesterday.

I went out with a friend today, really up for it, 5 miles in my friend got a puncture, it turns out he assumed the tyres on the bike he just bought where puncture resistant and he didn't have a spare inner tube, mini pump or repair kit.
So after a mile or so walking back, I put in a call to the Mrs to bring the car & bike rack so I could give him a lift home Doh!!Cipollini Bond

No just standard rims that came on the defy1 ... Front definately has a shorter valve (not punctured that one yet) so it's the original giant part. Oh we'll its got another long one in again now after the puncture.0 -
on my winter wheels i use either 48 or 52mm valve size,
i just stay away from the small 38mm ones
no dfference in price and should suit most wheel sizes i would guess.Specialized S Works SL2 . Campagnolo Record 11spd. rolling on Campag Zonda wheels

Slight bit of sarcasm with my quote but it had been 14 mths, but my mate was working nights a few weeks back...... he got a puncture 5 miles from home at 05:00, he'd forgot that he'd already used his last spare a couple of day previous and was left with no option(due to the time) but to walk home grinding his cleats in to the ground.0 -
ouch,

I had one on way into work couple of weeks ago. Bad time to find out my pump was buggered, so had a 2 mile walk home. Glad I use SPD's, but still got a blister on right heel
Had another 2 last thursday, on a tyre 2 weeks old :!:
I always carry 2 good inner tubes and a repair kit, on every ride.Share The Road Event http://www.sharetheroadride.co.uk

so here's the thing, i dont trust repaired tubes.
i always carry 2 brand new tubes in my pack, dont want to go to the trouble of fitting a tube to find its got a leak already in it,
in my MTB days i was ok repairing a puncture, but now with such small tubes a cant seem to get a good repair that i trust.
is it just me who throws away tubes without repairing them,
unlss i havnt found the best patches to use which actually workSpecialized S Works SL2 . Campagnolo Record 11spd. rolling on Campag Zonda wheels

A fellow cyclist asked me how many punctures I'd had recently. For me that's like saying 'Macbeth' in a theatre. :?
What a daft question but one that will mean that I'll probably get a series of punctures now when it's months since I've had one.
Talk about tempting fate :evil:0 -

I don't like the idea of repairing a road bike tube, hence I have a good 8-10 used tubes hanging in my garage! Can't
Bring myself to chuck them out though! :roll:0 -

Sub zero mid winter commute on the way to night shift, both tyres go pop together and i only have 1 tube at the time.
So cold the glue does not work .
Phone the mrs up and she takes over an hour to get to me as she has to get the kids inot the cra etc and does not drive far enough down the road, by the time she gets to me i have the onset of hypothermia as its a country lane and no one stops and no houses to knock on for a bit of warmth.FCN 3/5/90 -
when it's raining is the worst where there's no trees/bus shelters
the park tool stickers are ok to get you home but I wouldn't want to use them permanently
Rema Tip Top for me as well - CRC do the smallest size ones that are the best option, especially for the 18-23mm tubes
get good quality glue"I get paid to make other people suffer on my wheel, how good is that"

Last year (2011) was my worse year ever for punct*. I could write a book about how one by one every ride became fraught with the Pssstttt sound. That was why I took a good look at Tubeless tyres, but still haven't bought the wheels or tyres. I even thought about solid tyres...I was that desperate
This year hasn't been too bad. Somehow if I take too many spare inners, patches and a large pump I never get a Punct*. But if I take just a few patches and a crap lightweight pump on a ride...yeah, it'll happen.CAAD9

I bought a brand new bike about two months ago, took it for two short 'installation' rides during the week to get the setup right and get used to the feel of it. Sunday comes along and I head out, happy to be getting my first proper mileage on it, halfway through the ride I'm riding great then the front wheel suddenly feels a little harsh and jagged, boom, flat. :x0
