I thought you might be interested in reading a blog I wrote this week. It has been featured on one or two other bike websites and I think generates some food for thought and discussion on the of ignorance drivers towards cyclists.
Hope you like it.

Amazing how so many wimpy retards from the safety of an anonymous Twatter account are threatening to hit cyclists just to teach them a lesson. Yes cyclists will learn the error of their ways as they lie in the middle of the road just so you and your crappy little car can get to work 1 millisecond quicker.

Makes me realise why I ride MTBikes at least if I mangle myself it will be my own stupid fault not some tweeting moron #knobhead.

His opinion is unimportant as he catches a bus, and only poor people catch buses.

"Road tax" is actually "vehicle excise duty", a tax you pay 9or not if your car is pre 1972 or in tax band A anyway) which goes into 'general funds' and is then sent by the chancellor as he wishes, it is unrelated in operation to the 'road fund licence' which is was originally and ring fenced for road use only.

  • I know of the VED but iirc 'road tax' as is, is Part of the council tax we pay, a small percentage that does allegedly go towards the roads! The same as a tiny percentage goes towards the police, fire service etc.
VED for a long time has been a cash cow for the govt. Just like the mahgoosive tax on fuel,

No there is no such road tax......the council has a budget of which some is spent on roads, but your council tax breakdown doesn't include a "road tax" at all.

Council Tax covers part of council budgets for roads, plus central government funding (i.e. from Income Tax, VAT, Corporation Tax etc.) for the more major routes in the area. Motorways are centrally funded and the responsibility of the Highways Agency. That's right, you pay for those even though you can't cycle on them!
