Thoughts on this?

I'm struck by the risks mentioned by the police officer > a gust of wind and a close moving vehicle... hmm, so that'd be a close moving vehicle twice then.

Clearly a bit risky but I don't reckon nearly as risky as the report makes it appear.

lacking a child seat he'd be far safer sat on the cross bar so dad can have 2 hands on the bars. If anything happened a fall from that height (on his shoulders) could be fatal head first onto tarmac

No, I think that is clearly pretty stupid. I am a father and a very experienced cyclist with excellent road skills and I cannot imagine doing that. Never.
  • I'm with the police on this one - freaking dangerous for the kid even in an empty park with no pedestrians or traffic...

Yeah - I didn't mean to imply I'd do it, just the fact it made national news....
  • That is criminal. Whatever will that child think of their father if they even come across this story when they have grown? Broadcast to the nation - wearing a bobble hat.

    Shudder.
Nobody told me we had a communication problem
  • That's my way. I wonder if I can get some money if I catch him on camera...

Maybe it is a novelty helmet?

No hi-viz or lights? Hang 'im!

    Agree it is dangerous though.
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.
  • Clearly an accident waiting to happen.

But then so was making a pot of tea this morning in my socks when I missed the pot and nearly poured boiling water on my feet. But I'm not on the telly. And neither is the mother who was speeding with x number of kids in the car on the way to drop them off at school. Or the ....

So, nothing to see here, move along.
