I am currently out in Iraq on business and looking forward to getting home and having a good old ride. I will have been out here for a month but the time I get back next week. I have been told Devon it getting cold now.
Anyway my question is I have a summer jersey and a base layer. If I buy some arm warmers will that suffice for the winter for now or should I just go the whole hog and get a new winter jersey?
Its not the money I am just worried about getting to hot in a long sleeved jersey.
Also any good places to get stylish get non team jerseys?
Thanks!

It depends. It might be 10 or 12 degrees when you get back, in which case you'de be okay with your jersey + arm warmers (thermal roubaix type) + a gilet, but it could be <5 degrees in which case you'd probably want something warmer. If you get a jersey then one that's windproof on the front works best IMO.More problems but still living....0

It's a funny time at the moment, sometimes I head out in long sleeves and sweat ridiculously within a few miles, but other times it's colder than it seems and I don't wear enough. I''ve just gone and bought some arm warmers and gilet so I have the choice, certainly it'll be mainly long sleeves from December onwards though.0

If its long sleeve from Dec onwards I might as well just bite the bullet and get a long sleeved jersey then.
SO anyway to look out for apart from windproof front?0 -
Once we hit the cool weather its jackets for me. I see jerseys more as a spring and autumn wear. Two weeks ago it was 3 degrees up here and it was jacket, long sleeve under and then a base layer. I'd rather have to unzip a jacket to cool down rather than freeze on a long ride.0

Arm warmers for me, with a lightweight jacket stuffed into a back pocket in case it gets cold.0

Do what I did. Buy a windstopper long sleeve jacket with removable long sleeves. Works a treat. Gore do a very nice one.0

Short sleeves and arm warmers is much more flexible so I tend to just ride in that down to about 3C. I don't seem to require that much protection though most of the time (and carry a small rain jacket in my jersey pocket for if I get it wrong or stop for any length of time).0

My favourite bit of kit at the moment is a long sleeve thermo jersey with windstopper front panels.0
