Swapping pedals seems to be sloving some issues.

I've been struggling a little this summer after converting over from mtn biking to road riding in May.

I was off the mtn bike for 16 months after, what I believe is a small tear in my lat' quad muscle back in July 2010.

Anyhow, 2x MRI's and unltrasounds and 4x physios later and lately, 5 sessions of acupuncture (impressed) I have changed to Look pedals and carbon soled Spec' road shoes and thus far, no problems.

Far more secure, far more "clipped in" far less float than with my Crank Bros Candies (Egg Beaters with a small platform) and my muscles are aching due to the ride not having to back-off due to the "tear" becoming sore.

So far, so good.

All because of a change in pedals and cleats. Long may that continue.

  • Hopefully it continues that way! I was always sceptical of road pedals when I MTB'd, but now that i've tried them I much prefer them, shame they are not more practical on the trails!

Exactly the same here. I did give the SPD-SLs a go off-road on one occasion, just out of interest. Suffice to say, it wasn't a very good idea in practice. Getting out in a hurry was a lot easier than expected, but getting back in on anything other than the most benign terrain was a nightmare, and the less said about having to de-mud the cleats with a stick the better.
