For anyone who is thinking of buying merino base layers, now that November is upon us, I have written a review of three of them with which I am familiar in the hopes it might be of use:

Rapha
Icebreaker
Endura Baa Baa

You can read it here:

    Good review.

For further info, if you are considering buying more than one base layer, and 3 as you say is a good number, 1 to wear, 1 to wash, 1 in the drawer then the Rapha bundle represents better value at £140 for 3 (£46.67 each).

Or even better, wait till the sale starts after Christmas. It is always a good idea to buy Rapha at sale prices.
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

    Good point. Thanks
  • I love Icebreaker - and partly because it's easy to buy at different weights. I've got 200 for 6-10C mornings, 260 for 1-6 and 320 for the days at 0 or below. Thankfully, I've never paid full price for any of it; picked it up at outlets or in sales. I think it's averaged around £35 a piece. And it's nicely sized - at least for women!

  • I have a really nice Orca merino base layer, but they don't seem to do them anymore

    Hijack.
I use primark base layers. £8 if I remember correctly. Thumb loop, some have a neck zip, dry fast and I use them with a second base layer with waterproof down to 0 degrees.

Icebreaker undoubtedly my favourite (I find lots of others itchy), but it's expensive even at sale prices.
Sometimes parts break. Sometimes you crash. Sometimes it’s your fault.

I bought mine in NZ years ago when the £ was strong and the $NZ was weak. Otherwise yes, they are pretty dear. Mind, I saw an Assos base layer fir £91 the other day...

TK Maxx usually will have some merino base layers in, particularly now they've got ski gear in.
