Tightening cassette lock ring noise

Swapped my tiagra cassette for ultegra. When i used to tighten the lockring on the tiagra it would make a loud and metallic ratchet noise. Same on my other bike, unknown cassette.

The ultegra instead makes a soft dunk, dunk dunk noise. Is this okay and norrmal, is it cos of the soft washer that is under the lockring?

normal. just make sure you do it up to the correct torque.

Cool, cheers. Correct torque is until you cant get another dunk out of it isnt it?

No, it's whatever it says on the lockring! They can be overdone with too much effort ie a long tool. You get to judge what is right after a while.
