    Trek Madone - £1650
    Supersix - £2500

I'm sure mine can be topped as well

I've spent over 500 on shoes alone. I shudder to think what the final number would be if I added it up...

That is outrageous Shadow, just for sheer quantity rather than cash spend! Where on earth do you put it all?!

I'm going to bookmark this thread because I get the feeling it's going to make me feel a lot better about the (relatively) frugal amount I've spent!
  • If the Mrs asks then i have spent less than £150....

in reality its more like £800...

It does pay sometimes to have a partner who doesnt ask questions or say 'that looks expensive'! :-)

Well, there was the Enigma which was the thick end of £4k (bought the wheels last year) and about £400 on cloths.

  • About £4.5-£5k this year, which includes two bikes. A ridiculous amount given the time I actually spend riding. Or don't spend riding, more to the point...

    +1

Work gets in the way, bit ironic as it's the work that allows me to have the cash to spend :?

promise to ride more next year, maybe
  • Yes I don't feel so bad now must have spent £2500 I'm hoping, don't really want to work it out
  • Not all that much. A freewheel for one of my bikes, shorts, tights, a helmet and a cap for me, and then routine stuff: a couple of chains and tubes, some grease and bike wash, a pair of tyres...

If you count stuff that I didn't pay for, a rear wheel, a headset, a pair of brakes and some levers, some lovely vintage Cinelli bars and stem...

Don't. Want. To even. Think about it.

The biggest spend was definitely the hand-built Reynolds Thirty Two clinchers with Powertap G3 hub.. That was comfortably over 2k to start with, and there was lots more. Biggest extravagance was undoubtedly the Super Record rear dérailleur to complete the groupset. Pure "want" over "need"..

I got a fright the other day when I had to work out the total value of my best bike for insurance purposes. About £20 short of 6 grand... I'd never have spent that much in one go.

Well I started from ground zero in January and bought a 2005 CAAD5 for £320 to see if it was the sport for me.

Since then things have really taken hold and without realising it you spend quite large sums of cash on 'stuff'. I did not think I was a label snob but it turns out that if you buy cheap you buy twice in this game, so I now only buy quality items (never try to pay full price for anything though).

So since the original bike purchase in January I have bought 2 sets of wheels, a new frameset, new groupset, several saddles, loads of clothes (started in winter but gradually needed different stuff as the weather changed), numerous consumables (cables, tyres, brake pads, bar tape etc), 2 helmets, 4 pairs of glasses and numerous trips to LBS for bits and bobs (pump, seat packs etc).

So my £320 has ended up nearly 10 times that amount - and I still can't do hills :-)

Mind you when you look at it all the above is still only the same as what my Basso should have cost if I had paid full price 8)
    Yellow is the new Black.
  • i took up cycling from scratch in aug two years ago and Im about 13 grand in so far ut have seriously warned myself no more. That is a stupid ammount of money when you earn Spanish wages
  • I only got into it this year. So far iv'e spent around £2000 that includes 2 bikes.

I think less than £500 including a road bike, so lets add it up

    TDF road bike £320
    Sky team top £60
    Tubes etc £30
    Lights £45
    Saddle bag £15
    Aldi bike clothing £35
    Trousers and shorts £70
    Bag cover £15
    Sports top £10

    £600

opps and that was on a budget using old stuff mostly. Wish I spent more on my front light.

Has been good for at least 1500 miles so around 30 pence per mile fully amortising all the cost in one year
  • Carrera Virtuoso - £330
Pump, drink cage & top tube bag - £40
    2 inner tubes - £5
    Saddle bag - £13
    Bike tool - £3.50
    Helmet - £30
High vis windproof jacket - £15
    Pedals - £30

    total cost = £466.50
  • i took up cycling from scratch in aug two years ago and Im about 13 grand in so far ut have seriously warned myself no more. That is a stupid ammount of money when you earn Spanish wages

How do you earn that much serving drinks?
  • I notice that nobody has added in competition entry fees, travel to competitions, energy bars/drinks, etc it's surprising how they can add up!

    - Upgrades to my Condor 531 Pro (everything except the frame, saddle and post!)
    - Lots of clothes
