Ant+ HRM reading inconsistencies

Bit of an odd one but I wondered if anyone else has had this problem.
I took delivery of my used but supposedly working Tacx Ant+ Heart Rate Monitor today to use with my new Wahoo setup. I tried to link it up before and put the chest strap on and when so went into the app it connected and said my heart rate was 183bpm!
I couldn't understand it so I took it off again and gave it a clean and while it was drying I took my heart rate manually and got around 68bpm. Put the strap back on and sure enough 173bpm.
Any ideas?

Make sure you whet behind the contacts to get a good contact, also certain types of clothing can cause static interference that can cause anomalies0
