If you love Strava, you'll love this .. just copy and paste the segment URL for a detailed breakdown of the records for that segment. Apologies if posted before.

About time that extra data was available.
  • You need veloviewer, if you don't have it already, it's a website and o keefes thingamajig is incorporated , but its so. Much more than that
  • http://veloviewer.com/
You will need your strava Id, the number in the browser when you go to dashboard, input it, tell the mrs you are busy for the rest of the night and then lose yourself in the masses of data. Oh IT'S FREE!!!!!!

Both these sites make for interesting analysis (and amusement) but I don't think I'll get too hooked on them given the basic flaws with the raw data (probably as a result of RIRO). Thanks for the links.

Recently I've made a few comparisons of segments I've ridden together with others who have also uploaded their ride into Strava.
A ride a week or so back there was another rider who I entered the segment behind, overtook them in the segment, and arrived at the end of the segment probably 10 seconds or so before them. End result on Strava was that they were credited a time about 10 seconds faster than me. This happened a couple of segments on this ride.

However, a few weeks ago I was riding in France with a French buddy and we rode up a segment (Strava cat3) side by side. I was credited with a time 20 seconds quicker than him.

So bottom line, I can't take the data too seriously and feel that the only real comparisons I can make are with my own performance week on week.

  • Good points made by dabber, however on the veloviewer you can see an alternative leader board based on distance travelled on segment or speed, he openly admits that strava data is often flawed especially on short segments.

It's not Strava's data .. the problem is ineffectual data recording devices, nothing to do with Strava.

Although I must say, I'm always surprised at how accurate the data is, for the exact same reasons as Dabber.
