How to add a bashguard to this?

Is there anyway to add a bashguard to the new SLX or XT double chainsets? Or do they do a version that comes with a bashguard already like the old SLX double? Having a hard time sourcing a 10 speed shimano double chainset that will take a bashguard.

Pics for reference.

Older style with bashguard pre installed (can't find this in 10 speed)

currently not aware of any that fit but there is talk of some being made by some company.

will not be cheap as it will be machined from a bigger billet that the old or will have more parts.

just use a triple. old or new.

Ok. I assume it's easy to fit a standalone 38t ring to a triple to replace the standard 32 middle ring since the reason i wanted a double specific was to have a bigger outer ring.

Simple answer, buy a triple chainset, remove big ring and replace with bash.

Have a look at the reed in my sig. I did the same thing with that (starting with a triple).

So fit the bigger ring to the middle.

You might need to use a file. Or you might not.

Think i'm gonna do that. Are chainrings a simple case of unbolt, buy a new bigger one and bolt on? Or are the fittings more specific than that?
  • More or less. Right BCD. May need a file, may not. May need longer bolts depending on what you do
