Should I buy an Xbox?

My ps3 just died with black ops 2 incoming and a boring winter / Xmas ahead.

I have had it for 4 years and I am really behind on consoles etc but spotted a 250gb Xbox in sainsburys or 159.99 today.

Advice much appreciated. Can I play an Xbox online straight out of the box etc?

Is it stupid to buy one with a possible round of new consoles incoming?

Still a good buy imo. It will be a while before the new generation launch and even longer before they have a decent choice of games. History suggests that this is often the best time in a consoles lifespan to buy as developers have mastered them.

You'll be kicking yourself when you finally realise you should have bought an xbox in the first place ;)

Go for it.. Call of Duty deserves it. But you'll need £40 for an xbox live gold subscription after the initial 1 month free.

    (and HALO 4)

No, you shouldn't buy an Xbox, you should take this opportunity to grow up, get out on your bike and turn the hours of vegitating in front of the screen into fitness and training time. Your cycling will improve and you will thank me for this sage advice when you are faster up the hills than all your friends.

This advice is given with the following caveats:
    1. I am sitting in front of a screen vegitating whilst providing this advice, when I should be cycling,
    2. As a PS3 owner you probably don't have any friends to beat up the hills.

I recommend Real Life - its better than all of the above, although the graphics are not so good

....... Thank you for your reply, as a young man with no kids I am sure I can do both albeit separately.
A cycling game to play own would combine both hobbies!

Depending on the number of PS3 games you have, I'd just get a PS3 again...

Go for it. I think it's quieter than the PS3. Inboard wireless now makes it a cinch to set up and play online out of the box with no added cost or hardware. Not as feature-laden as the PS3 but a good bit cheaper because of it.

As for PCs, at least with the console you just put the game in and play; no worrying whether the graphics card is up to it, your drivers are up to date and the controls are useable and memorable.

I know someone with a 'box' thats x rated and it will cost you much less than 160 nicker. The software can be a bit tetchy though.

I'd suggest a ZX Spectrum. The keyboard isn't as good as the Commodore 64, but there are better games. Forget the BBC Micro - that's just for rich kids, and Elite is the only decent game.

Don't forget you'll need a friend to read out the program code from the magazines.

Are you sure it is virus free too?
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

If you have any ambitions to do anything in life, do it now.

Now how would I install the 'spyware' ?

I have heard that there are videos available on the Internet showing the method in high detail. Over and over again.

That's much more polite and concise than my version.

Learn to play guitar or something. Don't live life through a screen.

Do you watch TV? Go to the cinema? LIsten to music? Read books? Paint lead figures? Play chess? Trainspot? Spend time posting on internet forums?

Why? Why are you wasting your time doing something like that when you could be.... err, playing a guitar?

Games are entertainment, like many other things, and like any hobby, if taken to extremes can be a bad thing, but playing games on a regular basis does not constitute "living your life through a screen".

Just because you don't do it or see the value in it, doesn't make it a waste of time.
Be careful up there on your high horses, you might get vertigo.
That said, if you've got time to post up a negative remark on an internet forum concerning a topic you have no interest in, and are quite happy to look down on those who do enjoy said interest and take the time to compose a snippy comment as to why the OP or people who enjoy gaming are wasting their lives, perhaps you should look up the dictionary definition of hypocrisy.

OP : I'd chose the Xbox, but don't bother with any Kinect stuff, it doesn't really work too well and the games are not the best.

My point was that young people think that they have all the time in the world.

Older people know that this is not true.

Use your time to its fullest and don't put off anything till tomorrow which may never come.
What you choose to do is up to you but you would be wise to heed the advice.

I've got an evening of gaming planned for tonight. Please offer me a few suggestions as to what I should be doing to make better and fuller use of my leisure time. I'm all ears.

    Read the advice given.
In the not too distant future you will notice that time is getting faster. And it continues accelerating. Don't say you weren't warned. Have fun whatever you choose to do.
