Are XT M770 shifters compatible with old Deore LX mechs?

Hi,
I'm sure this is a newbie question...
I have Deore LX front & rear mechs.
They could be anywhere between 5 - 10 years old (I bought the bike 2nd hand).
Will XT M770 shifters be compatible?
There are SL-M570 ones on there at the moment but one of them is broken.
Thanks!

10 spd MTB is not compatible with non 10spd MTB kit.
as covered in the FAQs"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Thanks - but it's actually all 9 (27) speed.
I'm looking to get these: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=20701
I'm relatively new so apologies for not checking the FAQs. I'll see if my question is answered there.0 -

yes any indexed shimano shifter will work with your mech. (as long as it is not MTB 190spd)."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
