Strava Premium, Worth It?

Have a segment starting on your front drive is the way to get an uncontested KOM. Or do what my mate did and do one that because of GPS drift finished in a local factory and not the road outside... Worked for him0

Isn't there a free trial of premium at the moment, or am I just 'special'?0

Yes, and yes. Im special too, so thought id take up the free month offer.
The jury's put on if I will be keeping it, im guessing not....0 -

That's a shame Simon. You would be able to show us all your 25mph average
Given the modesty of that particular achievement in comparison to what everyone else can do, I'll keep my stats to myself for now thanks.0 -

I used Strava on my third outing. I was horribly unfit (I still am, just less so) but it was thoroughly heartening to know that I was far from being the slowest cyclist in Yorkshire.
The only way I'm likely to get a KOM is to find somewhere that doesn't have a segment and be first up it but it is a great way of comparing your own progress with a range of others. Cycling is so popular around here that almost all the segments have got 500-1000 rider records so it is a worthwhile comparison.
I know you were joking but I think the free version is excellent value for money (spoken like a true Yorkshireman).
I am indeed joking. 'Segments' aren't training increments that appeal to me at all, but I can vaguely understand why others enjoy it. I wouldn't want to be sourcing my numbers only from GPS, though...0 -

No need. You can use it to compliment your existing system rather than replace it.
From memory you use a clock and time your runs.
I used to use a cheap cycle computer along with a phone app. I found both sets of figures were almost identical.
Perhaps a bit 'belt and braces' but that sits well with my OCD
I have upgraded to a Garmin now which uses a wheel sensor and stopwatch as well as GPS."You really think you can burn off sugar with exercise?" downhill paul0 -
Yeah I've actually disengaged the speed sensor for my garmin now - it kept causing it to 'auto-pause', but the GPS data is so accurate that there's no problem. The fact that the Garmins are available for purchase without speed sensors at all is surely evidence of this too.Fairly regular racer currently located in Sicily. http://www.andbethere.com - I like to write about cycling0
