Boardman CX Team - Which Size

Hi All
I am 5' 9.5" (176cm) tall with 32" inside leg. I fancy getting a Boardman CX Team but I am unsure about the sizing. My two road bikes both have a 54cm virtual Top Tube length but having looked at the CX sizing chart (shown below) I see that would be a small which doesn't seem right? Do you think a small or a medium would suit me better?

I thought Halfords are all over the country? Really is best to go and sit on one before buying. The road bike geo comes up small and looks CX is same. I'd say M or possible L but best try first.0

I'm about an inch taller than you and rode a medium road comp (the old one) and that was fine with the same length TT. I was right on the limit for the M though I think the Small might be a bit cramped for you.Saracen Tenet 3 - 2015 - Dead - Replaced with a Hack Frame

I can't comment on the CX sizing, but I'm 5'9" and I have a Boardman Road in small (54cm top tube) and it fits me perfectly. I did try the medium, but was too stretched out on it.
When I can afford to get a CX as well, I'm expecting to get a small again.0 -
You say you want a 540mm TT so why not the small? CX bikes ride higher due to fatter tyres and bigger clearances - you'll appreciate the extra standover you have to put a foot down on rough terrain. Take a test ride and provided your knees don't hit the handlebars you should be OK. I run my CX bikes with lots of saddle setback in order to get my weight and drive through the rear wheel in muddy conditions. It's also good to have plenty of room to manouevre and shift your weight about in comparison to a road bike.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

Thanks for the replies so far, I appreciate it. I'm now edging towards a small but would like to hear some more opinions
I don't suppose there is anyone in the Kendal, Cumbria area that has a small or medium CX that I could try for size?

I have the medium, I am 5-7, short legs, this is my bike setup, as you can see there is plenty in hand for a taller rider, I have shortened the stem to 90mm though

^ Someone probably sold you the wrong size bike - the fact that your have the saddle pushed all the way forward on the rails is usually a pretty good indicator.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

Looks OK to me

Thanks for your photos tincaman. Out of interest do you know what length the original stem is?
Anyone in the South Lakes, North Lancashire, West Yorkshire area got a small or medium CX that I could try for size pls?
Its very frustrating that Halfords don't stock these then I could try one. Arrrghhhhh!0 -
I've just got one of these and had my first ride today. I went for the medium size and I am 5'8" but with short legs and long torso. I don't like to be too upright and so my bikes tend to have longish top tubes. The CX felt just right, and I cannot see the front hub with the bars in the way, my rough and ready way of checking seat position, stem and and top tube length.
My only problem was a puncture after 20 miles, and this was on a tarmac cycle track (offroad)!0 -
DaveN399 - thanks for the info. Apart from the puncture are you happy with the CX Team?0

I have just come off the phone to Halfords and it appears that they don't even sell the CX Team in a small and never have. Plus there isn't a medium anywhere in the North West of England. I wonder if Chris Boardman realises how sh!t his sole UK distributor is?
So its either a Medium CX Team or a different bike for me. I wish the Croix De Fer wasn't so heavy :-(0 -

I'm 5' 9" with a 29" inside leg and have the Boardman Team CX bought online September last year. The nearest Halfords with a CX Team in stock was Leicester (30 miles away), their only bike was medium. Immediately I knew it was too big for my short legs as I literally could only just touch the floor on tip-toes with the seat post at the lowest position. As a punt (on the basis I could send it back) I bought the Halfords size small online. It has been great after swapping out the stock 100mm head stem for a 120mm head stem.
I seem to remember when I cross referenced the frame sizes between the Halfords and Boardman websites that the bike that Halfords are selling as small is actually listed as small-medium by Boardman (there was an extra-small). However as you have discovered Halfords seem to have stopped listing the small size. Is this in preparation for the UK launch of a revised bike?
Best regards

I'm considering buying a Boardman CX Comp or Pro from Wiggle, but I'm not sure which size. When I look at the specs I can't really decide if I want to go for Small og Medium.
My height is 176 cm (appr. 5' 9"), inseam is 83 cm (32,5"). I have a Focus Izalco Team roadbike in medium size 54. I have tried to compare the geometry of the Focus and the Boardman only to find out, if I'm correct, that the Boardman mediums top tube with 110mm stem probably is to long for me, and the Boardman small may be too low and has to small handlebar and cranklength. Could you please help me choose correct size? For your information I rode a Trek Madone 4.9 until recently with top-tube of 560mm. That was to long for me so I had to change seatpost to one without setback and put on a 90mm stem. I don’t want that combination again as the bike felt too big for me.
Here's a wiew over the specs of my Izalco and the Boardmans, also compared with a Cannondale CAADX size 51 which felt really good, but don't have disc-brakes.
