I'm winterizing my daughters bike, and fitted Crud roadracer 2 mudguards, followed the tip guide on the website but I'm having problems with the front guard rubbing on the tyre.
I think the tyres are the issue, she a p******* magnet and despite lots of practice can't fix them on the roadside. She was running new 25c GP4000's but after the last time we went out and she got two punctures I lost the plot and bought her a pair of 25c marathon plus tyres. As you would expect, she's had no punctures and I tell her the extra weight and rolling resistance is good training
However, back to the guards, I can't get the front guard not to rub, there's still a significant mould flash on both tyres and I hoping this will improve matters (when it's gone) but are these tyres just too big for the guards?

I find Marathones run higher then normal tyres....the Plus even more so. As clearance is so tight on some bikes they may fowl the bit under the brake bridge....nothing you can really do...unless you fancy shaving some of the frame away :-o
  • seem to be rubbing on the section between the mudguard stays and the forks, when spin the wheel and push down on the section of guard forward of the forks the noise goes. I've tried moving the stays higher up the fork legs but this just moves the guard away from the wheel, if I could find a way to lift up the guard at the rear of the fork instead of at the front I think this would do it. I've taken out the anti rub pad behind the cable tie fixing hoping this would allow the guard to sit closer in the fork arch but no improvement.

:( no don't fancy that at all

I'll see if the noise subsides, if not I'll think about getting her some gatorskins, which is probably what I should have done in the first place!
