When im climbing or getting a little tired on hills, my right side lower back goes sore and numb. Is there a most likely source of this? Im getting a bike fit done in Februaury but was curious if there is something I can do to help it.

Do you do any core strength work?
  • I would do core strength work with other training. I do jiu Jitsu

  • With numbness that suggest nerve impingment/involvement which in turns suggests intervetrebal disc protrusion - i.e. the soft(ish) pad between the spine bones is pushing out a bit on right hand side and pressing on the nerve which makes you feel numbness. Also Sacro-illiac joint problems can also hrow up this kind of symptom

Either way get it checked out by a Physiotherapist NOT a bike fitter - nothing against bike fittters as better bike fit will certainly help but if you have a medical/physical/health problem you need medical help.
  • Cheers for that. I ve booked an appointment with physio for next week. Better getting it seen.

You might have a leg length discrepancy, making you pedal lop sided.

Quite possible - I have this and it cause smore hip and sit bone pain for me if its not corrected.

The hip, lower back, sacroiliac joints and associated tissues and structures are so close to each other, and so related (working in harmony when all is well) that its hard/impossible to pin point any one to any given symptom or sign without a proper physical examination and history. Either way any decent physio would check for this as part of their exam so it should be picked up if it is causative.

PS - Easy to correct with shims if it is :D
